Review: Kore wa Zombie desu ka? 3

PUDI PUDI!
It's no secret that I thoroughly enjoy comedies. However, amidst all the drama and mystery this season, I couldn't find a good comedy to keep me entertained.  That is, until my local anime club screened Kore wa Zombie desu ka?.  I nearly died laughing at the first 2 episodes, so I decided to keep watching.

Aikawa Ayumu is a normal high school student. Or, at least he WAS, until he was murdered by a serial killer.  However, a mute girl by the name of Yuu revived him as a zombie, and now he lives with Yuu and 2 other girls: A "Masou-Shoujo" by the name of Haruna, whose powers are promptly hindered by Ayumu, and a vampire ninja (oh yeah, they went there!) who calls herself Sera, and calls Ayumu "a piece of sh*t."  Now Ayumu is a Masou-Shoujo, and must deal with Haruna's work.

Zombies and harems after the break!

Right off the bat, we see the self-proclaimed genius Haruna defeat a couple monsters.  We can only assume Ayumu isn't nearby since she has her pink chainsaw in hand.  Afterwards, she encounters what appears to be Giga Pudding.  Haruna promptly wakes up from a dream she was having.  This week, we see less of Ayumu, and more of what the girls do while he's at school. Namely, absurd Jenga, mahjong, and Twister. Hilarity ensues.  All the while, Ayumu goes bowling with one of his buddies.  Which is when all hell breaks loose, as the girls decide to bowl at the lane next to Ayumu.

The comedy is clearly the selling point of the show, and boy, does it ever make me laugh. This episode sold me with the Giga Pudding reference, and it only got better from there.  A harmonious balance between normal drawing and CGI is struck once again.  I like how the girls were the main focus of the episode, as it made a nice change of pace.

There really were not any glaring issues with this epsiode. The humor was fresh, the dialogue and plot were well-written.  I can safely say that this was a near-perfect episode.

Overall, this was an excellent episode.  The combination of crisp animation, spot-on humor, and Ayumu's misfortune create a great comedic atmosphere.  I will most certainly be watching this, more than likely finishing it.
